Military Families to Trump: Apologize for Comments to Khans

image

Starting with his 4-5 years of draft dodging, to his remarks in the 70's that his dating live in New York was his own "personal Vietnam", to his attempt to expel Veteran street vendors in New York, to his inability to understand the nature of being a POW, to his rolling out self-serving (and tax exempt) charity donations as diversions while stiffing Veterans on those donations, to his apparent lack of understanding of what the GI Bill is, to his comparison of his business moves as sacrifices on par with the sacrifice of a Gold Star mother and family... he continues to demonstrate that his entire outlook and understanding of the military and soldiers is framed by, and limited to his playing Army while attending a Military Prep School.issue.                           GlennDL

Veteran Benefits Websites:

Re-posted from postal-indy.blogspot.com  9-30-2012
Information submitted by Steve Vaughn, Executive Vice President IAL #130 steve v2

Below are web-sites that provide information on Veterans benefits and how to file and ask for them. Accordingly, there are many sites that explain how to obtain books, military/medical records, information and how to appeal a denied claim with the VA. Please pass this information on to every Veteran you know. Nearly 100% of this information is free and available for all veterans, the only catch is: you have to ask for it, because they won't tell you about a specific benefit unless you ask for it. You need to know what questions to ask so the right doors open for you and then be ready to have an advocate who is willing to work with and for you, stay in the process, and press for your rights and your best interests.

DoD: No Timeline on Opening Online Exchange to Vets

image

A Defense Department plan that would open online shopping at the exchange systems to all honorably discharged veterans has no timeline for completion, officials said.

"The Army and Air Force Exchange Service proposal to extend exchange online shopping benefits to honorably discharged veterans is being worked and continues to make progress through the Defense Department, said Air Force Maj. Ben Sakrisson, a Defense Department spokesman. "However, we are unable to specify a date when the department will make a decision on the proposal. As these recommendations are pre-decisional, it would be inappropriate to say anything more."

Vietnam Veterans Day

image

Surviving Vietnam War veterans have gone through a lot in their lifetimes. Fighting in thick jungles and dense heat, they had to deal with hidden enemies, diseases and other health hazards while being away from their families for long stretches. When they returned – many with post-traumatic stress disorder and other health issues – it was to a nation that didn’t welcome them with open arms.   By Katie Lange DoD News, Defense Media Actiity

There is some debate, March 29 is generally viewed as a more appropriate date. On that day in 1973, the last combat troops were withdrawn from Vietnam and the last prisoners of war held in North Vietnam arrived on American soil. It is also the date President Nixon chose for the first Vietnam Veterans Day in 1974.

Top General Takes 'Umbrage' at GOP Candidate Claims Military is 'Gutted'

image

A top-ranking American general said he takes “umbrage with the notion that our military has been gutted,” a claim made by several Republican presidential candidates on the campaign trail.

While releasing details Tuesday about the Obama administration’s $582.7 billion defense budget request for 2017, Air Force Gen. Paul Selva, the vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, was asked about claims.

“I won’t be argumentative but I will take umbrage with the notion that our military has been gutted,” said Selva.

“I stand here today a person that’s worn this uniform for 35 years," he added. “At no time in my career have I been more confident than this instant in saying we have the most p…                          read more
